Meet Judge Jennifer Edgeworth
Judge Jennifer Edgeworth presides over the 219th Judicial District Court, which serves all of Collin County and has general jurisdiction cases involving criminal felonies, family law, and civil law. She handles matters ranging from capital murder and aggravated robbery, to divorces and adoptions, and breaches of contract and fraud.
She also presides over the Collin County Adult Mental Health Court, a grant funded specialty court that supports individuals with mental health conditions.
Experience
Prior to becoming a judge, Judge Edgeworth had nineteen years of experience as an attorney managing complex lawsuits involving millions of dollars in damages. She represented businesses and professionals, and was the lead attorney on over 200 cases. She worked at an international firm, as a partner at two mid-sized firms, and owned her own firm. She also represented individuals in family law matters and served as a guardian ad litem to protect the interests of children.
Community Involvement
Judge Edgeworth is very active and connected in our community. She is a popular speaker about jury trials and our court system, speaking often to leadership classes, Cub Scout and Girl Scout organizations, the Citizen Prosecutor Academy, and civic organizations. Her court hosts a Law Practicum Class for seniors from Prosper High School, where students observe her court proceedings throughout the semester as part of their education. Judge Edgeworth often provides continuing education and instruction to lawyers and other judges on topics such as evidence and trial strategy, and she volunteers her time judging law school and high school mock trial competitions.
Jennifer Edgeworth is a past President of the Collin County Women Lawyers Association, a sustainer in the Junior League of Collin County, chaired Santa’s Workshop and the Lights at Legacy Tree Lighting for the Women’s Auxiliary of Children’s Medical Center, and is a graduate of Leadership Plano.
Education
Judge Edgeworth graduated from Baylor University with a joint MBA and law degree in 1999, and obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas Christian University (TCU), cum laude, in 1996. She was recognized by TCU as its Distinguished Student of the Year in 1999, and the Outstanding Young Professional in 2010.
Family
Jennifer has lived in Collin County with her family since 2008. She is happily married to her husband, Chris, and they are proud parents of a son in the public school system. They attend Chase Oaks Church and enjoy the outdoors and spending family time together.
